Gulf Poetry Forum 2024 to Be Held in Taif
Taif, Saudi Arabia — The Gulf Poetry Forum 2024 will be held in Taif from July 5 to 6, organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission in cooperation with the GCC General Secretariat. The event, now in its 13th edition, brings together poets, critics, and literary scholars from across the Gulf region. Its main goal is to foster cultural dialogue and reinforce the value of Classical Arabic poetry in national identity.
Advancing Poetry as a Cultural Bridge
Importantly, the forum aims to identify new poetic voices, celebrate prominent figures, and highlight current trends shaping contemporary Gulf poetry. Moreover, it seeks to elevate Arabic poetry’s status through cross-cultural engagement and academic discussion. Participants will attend poetry readings, panel discussions, and artistic showcases that promote poetic appreciation and literary exchange.
Rich Agenda and Intellectual Discourse
To begin, the forum will feature an opening ceremony, followed by artistic performances and an introductory film outlining the forum’s objectives. Subsequently, multiple poetry evenings will give poets a platform to share their works with audiences from all GCC countries.
On the concluding day, the forum will host a major intellectual symposium titled “The Poetic Image in Gulf Poetry between Tradition and Modernity.” During this session, experts will explore how poetic imagery reflects evolving themes, generational shifts, and contemporary influences across the region. In addition, they will examine the historical roots of Gulf poetry and its modern stylistic developments.
Art Exhibitions and Institutional Participation
Alongside the main program, the forum will include an art exhibition and four pavilions representing participating organizations. These displays will showcase various institutional efforts to preserve, publish, and promote Arabic poetry and literature. Consequently, the event offers a well-rounded cultural experience that blends artistic expression with academic analysis.
Biennial Celebration of Gulf Poetic Traditions
The Gulf Poetry Forum is held every two years in a different member state. Its rotation reflects the collective commitment of GCC countries to nurturing literary traditions and encouraging regional collaboration. Through such initiatives, the forum contributes significantly to the Vision 2030 goals of cultural enrichment and identity preservation.
