FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Saudi Arabia’s preparations to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, stating the Kingdom is on track to deliver a historic edition of the global tournament.
Speaking at the panel discussion “The Road to 2034: Partnerships and Progress Toward the World Cup in Saudi Arabia,” held in Riyadh, Infantino commended the country’s strategic investment in football and its growing influence on the global stage.
“Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in football and is among the world’s leading investors in the sport,” Infantino said. “It is preparing for a milestone event with the 2034 World Cup.”
He also highlighted the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to kick off within a month, featuring Saudi club Al Hilal in a group that includes Real Madrid.
Infantino emphasized football’s global impact, noting it unites over five billion fans worldwide. “Football brings people together. It’s a universal game that promotes health, happiness, and unity,” he said.
On the economic front, Infantino underscored football’s contribution to the global economy. “The sport generates approximately $270 billion in GDP annually, with 70% coming from Europe,” he said. “Investing in FIFA is among the most powerful sports investments, offering unmatched global reach and economic returns.”
During his visit, Infantino also toured the Regional Training Center in Jeddah and applauded Saudi Arabia’s progress in women’s football, calling the efforts “exceptional” and highlighting the Kingdom’s significant investment in growing the women’s game.
