RIYADH – The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) recorded a 13.43% increase in container handling during April 2025, reaching 625,430 TEUs, compared to 551,373 TEUs in the same period last year.

The number of transshipment containers rose by 7.46%, reaching 132,245 TEUs, up from 123,060 TEUs in the same period last year.

Imported containers increased by 22.48%, totaling 259,425 TEUs, compared to 211,809 TEUs in the same period last year. Exported containers rose by 7.97%, reaching 233,760 TEUs, compared to 216,504 TEUs during the same period.

Despite these gains, the total cargo throughput—including general cargo, solid bulk, and liquid bulk—decreased by 2.36%, totaling 20,532,098 tons, down from 21,029,161 tons in the same period last year. Of this, general cargo amounted to 974,944 tons, solid bulk cargo to 4,484,779 tons, and liquid bulk cargo to 15,072,375 tons.

The ports also received 682,022 heads of cattle, a 5.36% increase from 647,345 during the same period last year.

Maritime traffic increased by 16.28%, with 1,057 ships arriving, compared to 909 in the same period last year. Passenger numbers saw a sharp rise of 94.72%, reaching 107,638, up from 55,277. Vehicle traffic grew by 36.56%, reaching 95,300 vehicles, compared to 69,786 in the same period last year.

It is also worth noting that in March 2025, Mawani recorded a 13.61% year-on-year increase in container handling, reaching 699,928 TEUs, compared to 616,079 TEUs in the same period last year.
