STC Hajj 5G traffic sets historic high on Arafat Day
Makkah, Saudi Arabia — STC Group, Saudi Arabia’s premier digital enabler, achieved the highest data traffic in its network history during the 1446 (2025) Hajj season. Arafat Day, in particular, marked a key milestone, with STC Hajj 5G traffic rising over 40% during peak hours compared to 2024. Notably, 5G traffic surged by more than 98% year-over-year.
STC’s monitoring tools show a 64% jump in STC Hajj 5G traffic and a 23% boost in 5G speeds. These improvements result from strategic investments in digital infrastructure and focused preparations ahead of the pilgrimage.
AI and smart tech optimize STC Hajj 5G traffic.
STC used self-optimizing network (SON) technology powered by artificial intelligence and analytics. These tools detect and fix network issues in real-time. They also reallocate resources and adjust coverage across more than 350 smart-enabled sites.
To support the influx of pilgrims, STC deployed over 80 mobile communication vehicles (COWs) and set up more than 1,000 Wi-Fi access points across Makkah. The group also enabled VoLTE technology, which improved voice call clarity.
STC digital services support safe, seamless Hajj
Beyond basic telecommunications, STC launched AI-driven crowd and emergency management solutions using its Tetra network. The setup included 78 mobile units and extended across 144 locations in the Holy City.
STC also introduced interactive holograms in several languages to assist pilgrims. Subsidiaries such as Specialized by STC and solutions by STC supported this effort. They provided secure communication packages, intelligent surveillance systems, and real-time device management tools.
These efforts demonstrate STC Group’s ongoing mission to support Saudi Arabia’s digital goals and ensure stable, reliable connectivity during Hajj.
The Saudi Standard’s View: Digital Precision for Pilgrimage Scale
STC’s record-setting 5G traffic during Hajj 1446 highlights more than just technical capacity. It reflects Saudi Arabia’s shift toward digital systems engineered for precision under pressure. With AI-guided optimization and innovative diagnostics deployed across 350+ sites, STC ensured real-time responsiveness to one of the world’s largest logistical challenges.
What distinguishes this achievement is its specificity. Rather than overbuild, STC implemented tailored upgrades—VoLTE voice tech, deployable communication vehicles, and multilingual holograms—designed explicitly for Hajj dynamics. These tactical enhancements show how Saudi telecom strategy is maturing, not just in scale but in its ability to calibrate for context.
