Mecca has secured the 52nd position globally in the Smart Cities Index, as announced by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). The sacred city ranks fifth among Arab cities and second within Saudi Arabia, following Riyadh.
The advancement reflects Mecca’s readiness to embrace cutting-edge technologies, enhancing the quality of life for its residents, visitors, and pilgrims. This progress contributes to making the city an attractive environment for investment and opportunities creation.
The services available in Mecca have played a significant role in fostering a sustainable urban environment, elevating service levels, and enhancing community engagement and resource efficiency.
Saleh bin Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, CEO of the Royal Commission for Mecca City and the Holy Sites, commented on the achievement. He attributed the success to divine grace and the unwavering support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince, who is also the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Royal Commission for Mecca City.
Al-Rasheed highlighted the concerted efforts from all sectors operating within Mecca’s geographical scope. These efforts aim to enhance the city’s global stature and strive for higher rankings to meet the leadership’s aspirations in serving Mecca’s residents and visitors by optimizing all available resources to improve their quality of life.
