Abha, July 21, 2024 – The Abha Chamber, in collaboration with the Tourism Media Association, organized a workshop titled “Tourism Volunteering” to discuss its impact on supporting the tourism and hospitality sector in the Asir region.

The workshop addressed the importance and concept of tourism volunteering according to national standards and methodologies, highlighting the efforts and initiatives of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in promoting volunteer work. It also provided insights into volunteer statistics, the main types of tourism in the Kingdom, and some challenges facing the tourism sector in Asir.

Mohammed Saad Al-Qahtani, Vice President of the Abha Chamber, noted that the number of volunteers in the Kingdom reached 725,000 in 2023. He mentioned that the Volunteer Work Platform launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development aims to enable volunteers to engage in volunteer work at the time, place, and field that match their expertise and skills. The platform also allows volunteers to document their volunteer hours and issue a volunteer certificate.

Al-Qahtani added that the chamber seeks to collaborate with relevant entities to empower volunteers in the tourism sector to provide assistance and learn about various cultures and practices, enriching their experiences.
