Education & Training Evaluation Commission Presents at AERA

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — The Education & Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) participated in the 2025 annual conference of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), held in Denver, Colorado. The event welcomed over 13,000 researchers under the theme: “Research, Healing, and Reform Toward Just Educational Renewal.”

ETEC presented two scientific papers showcasing Saudi research in education. The first outlined a method for classifying test-takers into standardized performance levels. It used the Response Validity Methodology (RVM) and Values Plausible Scores to assess demographic variables such as regional education zones. The study applied DSM — a modern psychometric framework used by ETEC in national exams and licensing assessments.

The second paper, delivered during a session on item response theory applications, analyzed patterns in test-taker motivation. Researchers used the Index of Response Variance (IRV) to detect low-effort behavior linked to academic underperformance. Based on a sample of 1,100 students, the study compared performance levels and motivational indicators.

According to the Education & Training Evaluation Commission, global events like AERA offer opportunities to share educational assessment innovation developed in the Kingdom. ETEC emphasized the value of exchanging insights with international academics and policymakers.

The AERA conference featured over 2,500 sessions spanning diverse education topics. Participants from more than 50 countries contributed, making it the world’s largest gathering of education researchers.

ETEC continues to collaborate with national and global education bodies to support quality and accountability. These efforts align with Vision 2030 and the Human Capability Development Program, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s ambition to lead in educational reform and measurement.
