Saudi Energy Minister, COP30 President Discuss Climate Goals

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, met in Riyadh with Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, the appointed president of COP30. The climate summit will take place in November 2025 in Belém, located in Brazil’s Amazon region.

Advancing Climate Cooperation Ahead of COP30

During the meeting, both sides explored how to improve joint climate action. They emphasized the need to support the goals of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. Importantly, they agreed that outcomes must be fair, inclusive, and adapted to each nation’s context.

Prince Abdulaziz the Saudi Energy Minister also presented Saudi Arabia’s key climate strategiesclimate strategies. He explained how the Kingdom is investing in renewable energy, cutting emissions, and removing carbon. These steps are part of the country’s broader effort to meet international climate goals.

Moreover, he highlighted flagship initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative. These programs show how Saudi Arabia is leading regional efforts in sustainability. In addition, the country is adopting the circular carbon economy, which aims to manage carbon through reduce–reuse–recycle techniques.

As COP30 approaches, the meeting reinforced Saudi Arabia’s role in shaping global climate policy. The Kingdom continues to engage in international dialogue while contributing science-based solutions to global challenges.
