Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to support climate action across the Middle East. His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, met with Inger Andersen, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director, to formalize the agreement in Riyadh.
The MoU focuses on reducing emissions and promoting clean energy in the region. Both sides agreed to support the Paris Agreement and the goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Circular Carbon Economy at the Core of Climate Cooperation
During the meeting, Saudi officials reviewed key national programs, including the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative. These efforts aim to accelerate the use of renewable energy and reduce emissions.
The newly signed MoU covers several areas of cooperation:
- Supporting clean energy technologies
