Madinah, Saudi Arabia — The National Water Company (NWC), through its Northwest Sector, has launched 23 new water and environmental projects in the Madinah region. The projects are valued at over SAR 814 million and aim to enhance service coverage, efficiency, and infrastructure. They also align with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals for utilities and sustainable development.

The NWC stated that these initiatives will enhance service quality, safeguard natural resources, and mitigate environmental risks.

Madinah Water Supply Projects to Expand Service Coverage

Of the 23 projects, 15 focus on expanding water supply systems. Key details include:

  • Eleven projects serve neighborhoods in Madinah, including Shouran, Al-Matar, Al-Iskan, Hamra Al-Asad, Al-Shafiya, Al-Ghaba, Al-Katana, and Al-Mahameed. Together, they will install over 726 km of pipelines with investments exceeding SAR 454.6 million.
  • Four additional projects will extend water services to Al-Hanakiyah, Al-Ais, and Badr governorates. These will add approximately 223 km of pipelines at a cost exceeding SAR 117.7 million.

These efforts will expand access to reliable water services while improving infrastructure across the region.

Environmental Initiatives to Improve Wastewater Services in Madinah

The NWC also announced eight environmental projects to expand wastewater services:

  • Four projects target Madinah neighborhoods, including Al-Nubala, Al-Rawabi, Al-Matar, Al-Salam, Bir Uthman, and Al-Shuraybat. They will include 98 km of sewage pipelines with a total investment exceeding SAR 157.8 million.
  • Four additional projects will improve wastewater networks in Al-Ula, Badr, and Yanbu governorates. These will add over 54 km of pipelines at a cost exceeding SAR 84.6 million.

These initiatives support environmental protection, reduce pollution, and contribute to the creation of sustainable urban areas.

The NWC noted that these projects complement nine initiatives announced in May 2024. Those projects were worth SAR 500 million and focused on improving Madinah’s infrastructure.
