Geneva, Switzerland — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has earned global recognition at the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva. The ministry received a Certificate of Excellence for its AI-driven agriculture project. The project ranked among the top five globally in the Digital Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence category.
The WSIS+20 event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with Switzerland, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD. It is considered the world’s largest annual gathering for ICT development.
The Saudi project stood out among more than 360 international entries. This reflects the Kingdom’s growing leadership in applying artificial intelligence to agriculture and environmental management.
Saudi AI Agriculture Award Reflects Innovation and Global Impact
The ministry’s project uses artificial intelligence to deliver sustainable agriculture solutions. It supports both the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Saudi Vision 2030’s innovation targets.
Deputy Minister Eng. Mansour Al-Mushaiti confirmed that the achievement demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to digital transformation. He highlighted its importance for improving food security and environmental management.
Dr. Abdulhamid Al-Alwai, the ministry’s General Supervisor for Digital Transformation, explained that the project features a smart digital platform for animal health. This system provides real-time data, supports decision-making, and enhances environmental preparedness.
Notably, Saudi Arabia has received global recognition in this field before. The Kingdom won WSIS awards in 2019, 2022, and 2023, along with more than six international certificates for excellence in agriculture, the environment, and e-government.
The Saudi Standard’s View: Digital Agriculture Driving Food Security
The Saudi AI agriculture award reflects the growing role of technology in transforming food production and resource management. Artificial intelligence, combined with digital platforms, is providing new tools for improving crop yields, protecting animal health, and supporting environmental sustainability. Saudi Arabia’s investment in these technologies is not only advancing sustainable agriculture but also reducing risks tied to food security and climate change. As global competition for resources intensifies, Saudi Arabia’s leadership in digital agriculture positions the Kingdom to achieve long-term food resilience. These efforts are critical to realizing Vision 2030’s goals of building a high-tech, sustainable agricultural sector that can adapt to future challenges.
