The two-day event, co-hosted by the Saudi Chess Federation and Gambit Chess Club, carried the theme “Social Chess.” It combined international competition with a strong message of inclusivity, attracting players and spectators from across the region.
On the first day, an internationally rated tournament took place under the supervision of FIDE. The seven-round Swiss-system event brought together 50 players from eight federations. Players from Saudi Arabia made up 66% of the field. The other participants came from the Philippines, England, Egypt, and India. Abano Gary (Philippines) won first place, followed by Mohammed Saad Al-Samail (Saudi Arabia) and Hossam Mohammed Abdelhafiz (Egypt).

Their participation showed how chess can overcome physical and sensory limitations.
In addition, the event featured player exhibitions, a children’s chess coloring station, puzzle zones, and storytelling by national champions. Visually impaired guests shared hopes of competing internationally, reflecting the promise of inclusive sports in Saudi Arabia.
The organizers closed the event by recognizing the Gambit Chess Club and the House of Culture for their efforts in promoting community outreach through chess. As a result, the event highlighted Saudi Arabia’s push for accessibility in sports under Vision 2030. It also confirmed Dammam’s role as a growing center for cultural and civic engagement.
