Tabuk, Saudi Arabia — Red Sea International Airport has begun operating international flights, marking a major step in Saudi Arabia’s tourism and transport strategy. FlyDubai launched the first global route on Thursday, April 18, offering two flights per week—on Thursdays and Sundays.
These flights supplement domestic routes from Riyadh and Jeddah, operated by Saudi Airlines. With this expansion, the airport now handles eight scheduled flights weekly. Located along the Kingdom’s western coast, the airport offers direct access to coral reefs, beaches, and island resorts in the Red Sea region.
International Connectivity Advances Vision 2030 Tourism Goals
This new international service comes after the launch of two luxury resorts—Six Senses Southern Dunes and the St. Regis Red Sea Resort. Together with the airport, these developments aim to draw premium travelers and support employment in Tabuk Province. Additionally, officials confirmed that three more resorts are slated to open by year-end.
John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global, emphasized the airport’s strategic value. “This first international flight is another step toward making Saudi Arabia one of the world’s top tourist destinations. The airport offers easier access to the Red Sea destination,” he said.
Consequently, the airport’s role has shifted from a regional facility to an international tourism gateway, aligned with Vision 2030’s push for economic diversification through non-oil sectors.
Red Sea Airport Anchors Coastal Tourism Corridor
Red Sea International Airport is engineered to serve the demands of sustainable, experience-driven travel. It forms part of a vertically integrated destination model that connects air access with high-end lodging, ecological preservation, and cultural tourism.
Furthermore, the facility reinforces Saudi Arabia’s commitment to climate-sensitive development. Its design, infrastructure, and operations aim to balance tourism growth with environmental protection—a core tenet of the Red Sea project.
Saudi Standard’s View: Airport Marks a New Phase in Saudi Coastal Tourism
The Red Sea International Airport’s entry into global operations is a turning point in Saudi tourism. Unlike traditional hubs built for economic throughput, this airport is tailored for curated travel experiences. It supports a new class of travelers seeking luxury, sustainability, and exclusivity.
More importantly, the launch reflects a maturing tourism strategy. Aviation, hospitality, and environmental stewardship are being developed together, not in isolation. This integrated model allows for stronger control over visitor impact and long-term quality.
As Saudi Arabia continues its ascent as a global tourism player, the Red Sea region will serve as a test case. Success here will depend on expanding routes, safeguarding natural assets, and delivering premium guest experiences. If managed well, this airport could become a blueprint for responsible, high-value tourism across the Kingdom.
