Mecca Smart City Ranked 52nd Globally in IMD Index
Mecca, Saudi Arabia — Mecca Smart City has reached a global milestone, ranking 52nd in the 2024 IMD Smart City Index. It now holds fifth place among Arab cities and second in Saudi Arabia, following Riyadh.
The ranking, published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), reflects Mecca’s ongoing transformation into a tech-driven urban hub. The city’s use of smart technologies continues to enhance quality of life for residents, visitors, and pilgrims alike.
Technology and Services Elevate Urban Living
The expansion of digital services across Mecca has created a more sustainable and efficient urban environment. These advancements have helped improve resource use, elevate public services, and foster stronger engagement with communities.
Saleh bin Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, CEO of the Royal Commission for Mecca City and the Holy Sites, credited the achievement to divine support and the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince. He also praised the combined efforts of government entities working within Mecca’s boundaries.
“Our mission is to enhance Mecca’s global presence,” Al-Rasheed said. “We aim to meet the expectations of our leadership by improving services and optimizing resources for the benefit of both residents and pilgrims.”

The Mecca Smart City ranking highlights the city’s readiness to deploy advanced technology to solve urban challenges. It also strengthens Mecca’s position as a destination for investment and opportunity — fully aligned with Vision 2030’s goals for digital innovation and livable cities.
