“Mawani” Adds CBS Shipping Service to Boost China-Saudi Connectivity

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has introduced a new shipping route, the CBS service, at Jeddah Islamic Port, in partnership with Chinese carrier New New Line. This strategic addition strengthens maritime trade links between Saudi Arabia and China.

The CBS route links Jeddah Islamic Port with major Chinese ports—Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, and Guangzhou—as well as Damietta in Egypt. Operating weekly, the service can handle up to 4,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per voyage. It marks the 14th new service Mawani has secured in 2024 with global shipping partners.

This move aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which positions the Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting three continents. By boosting operational efficiency and expanding international shipping access, Mawani aims to elevate Saudi Arabia’s position in the Global Maritime Connectivity Index and support national exports and imports.

Jeddah Islamic Port is a major commercial hub on the Red Sea, covering 12.5 square kilometers and featuring 62 berths. The port boasts advanced infrastructure, including:

  • Two container handling terminals
  • A logistics village for warehousing and re-export
  • General cargo terminals
  • Ship repair and marine service docks
  • Halls for pilgrims and visitors

The port’s capabilities underscore its vital role in facilitating trade, religious tourism, and industrial services.
