Saudi-China Cooperation on Climate Discussed in Riyadh

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Senior officials from Saudi Arabia and China met in Riyadh to advance Saudi-China cooperation on climate policy and sustainable development. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, held talks with Liu Zhenmin, China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change. The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Saudi Climate Envoy Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir.

Strengthening Joint Climate Action

The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in climate change initiatives and ways to align policies at the regional and global levels. They emphasized the importance of joint action in addressing environmental challenges and supporting shared development goals.

As part of the meeting, both delegations reviewed preparations for the upcoming COP30 climate summit. They agreed that strong dialogue and collective action are critical to achieving successful outcomes at the event.

The talks also covered national and regional environmental programs, including Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative and China’s ongoing green development efforts. Both parties reaffirmed their intent to exchange knowledge and scale up cooperation in low-emission technologies and clean energy innovation.

They further emphasized the importance of inclusive partnerships, sustainable technology, and climate innovation as key drivers for long-term impact.
