Al Arabiya Business — Saudi Arabia has officially launched the Jeddah logistics corridor project, connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to the Khumrah Logistics Zone in southern Jeddah. The project is part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to enhance logistics efficiency and expand transport infrastructure under Vision 2030.
Al Arabiya Business says the new corridor will serve over 8,000 trucks daily. It provides direct access to Jeddah Islamic Port, which handles nearly 75% of Saudi Arabia’s imports and exports.
Jeddah Logistics Corridor Project Boosts Port Efficiency and Traffic Flow
In an interview with Al Arabiya Business, Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, emphasized the project’s strategic role. The corridor will extend 17 kilometers, with two lanes in each direction and more than 12 suspension bridges. The project is valued at SAR 689 million and is scheduled for completion by 2028.
This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion across Jeddah, particularly in the southern region where truck movement is heavy. Additionally, the corridor will increase Jeddah Islamic Port’s operational capacity by over 10%, significantly enhancing port efficiency.
The nearby Khumrah Logistics Zone spans approximately 10 million square meters. Its first phase prepared more than 3 million square meters, with further expansion underway. The goal is positioning Khumrah among the largest logistics hubs along the Red Sea coast.
Vision 2030 Logistics Strategy Strengthens Saudi Arabia’s Global Role
The Jeddah logistics corridor project directly supports Saudi Arabia’s strategy to become a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. It also highlights the Red Sea’s strategic importance, given its role in facilitating over 13% of global trade.
Moreover, the project reflects broader national efforts to expand infrastructure, encourage investment, and position Saudi Arabia as a leading center for global trade and logistics.
The Saudi Standard’s View: Jeddah Corridor Advances Trade and Infrastructure
The Jeddah logistics corridor project illustrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure. By linking Jeddah Islamic Port to the expanding Khumrah Logistics Zone, the Kingdom is reducing congestion, boosting trade, and supporting its Vision 2030 logistics strategy.
These infrastructure developments are vital for enhancing Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness, improving supply chains, and reinforcing the Kingdom’s position in global trade networks.
