Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — The latest Saudi action-comedy, Al-Zarfa: Escape from the Hell of Hanhonia, has dominated the Al-Zarfa Saudi box office, outpacing major Hollywood releases during its opening weekend. Produced by Al-Shamsi Films and Telfaz11, the film attracted over 184,000 viewers and generated 7,903,558 SAR (approximately 2.165 million USD) in just three days.

Al-Zarfa surpassed high-profile international titles, including F1, 28 Years Later, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Dangerous Animals, and John Wick: Ballerina, marking one of the strongest openings for a Saudi film this year.

The film reflects a growing trend in Saudi cinema growth, as audiences show an increasing appetite for stories grounded in local culture but delivered with global production standards.

Al-Zarfa Movie Reflects Saudi Storytelling Success

Produced by Al-Shamsi Films, Telfaz11 Studios, and Big Time Fund, Al-Zarfa blends comedy and action in a uniquely Saudi narrative. The film follows three young men who meet through online gaming. Despite their different goals, they end up working together at a restaurant owned by the Hanhoni Holding Group.

Their ordinary lives spiral into chaos when they become entangled in a plan to steal rare artwork from the private museum of wealthy businessman Abdulatif Al-Hanhoni. The heist, however, goes awry, landing them in Al-Jufra prison, where the story unfolds through a mix of humor and suspense.

Executive producer Ibrahim Al-Khairallah stated, “It’s wonderful to see a Saudi film leading the cinema scene amid global summer releases. Following Sattar’s success, Al-Zarfa proves Saudi audiences want local stories told with production values that compete with Hollywood.”

Telfaz11 and the Rise of Saudi Cinema

The success of Al-Zarfa highlights the impact of Telfaz11 Saudi Productions, which is known for pioneering Saudi creative content. Their previous hit, Sattar, became the highest-grossing Saudi film in box office history.

The new film continues that momentum, showcasing Saudi cultural storytelling through relatable humor, social satire, and high-stakes drama. With its strong opening, Al-Zarfa joins the ranks of the highest-grossing Saudi films, signaling increased demand for authentic, locally produced cinema.

Currently showing in cinemas across the Kingdom, Al-Zarfa will soon expand to theaters in other Gulf countries, further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in the region’s entertainment industry.
